Combat AMR Network Event in Asella, Ethiopia February 2020 2

The network on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) was initiated between five German and six African partner sites in 2016 with the goal to join forces in the fight against the spread of AMR in Sub-Saharan Africa. Founded by the German University and Hospital Partnership Programme, the partners are currently focusing on the collaboration of a programme to strengthen the interchange and results communication between microbiological laboratories and clinicians, and to procure AMR surveillance data in order to support Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) activities at the African partner institutions by introducing a joint web-based surveillance and lab information system.

The COMBAT AMR network fosters lively and fruitful exchange among its members, the collection and sharing of comparable data, development of collaborative research initiatives, evidence-based knowledge, standard operational procedures and local treatment guidelines to fight AMR globally with locally adapted solutions. As part of network activities, several joint workshops and trainings, coordinated interventions and a successful joint scientific study on AMR in urinary tract infections have been conducted to date.

In February 2020 all partners have met together with advisors from the GIZ University and Hospital Programme and representatives from the local Ministry of Health in order to exchange knowledge, get to know each other and develop new concepts and ideas.
