Public-Private Partnerships offer access to cutting-edge technologies and expertise
HKP plays an active role in ‘matching’ the partnership projects with private sector companies to incorporate even more special expertise, technology and funding.
GIZ, as the organisation implementing this programme on behalf of BMZ, conducts rigorous ethical and transparency screenings of its private-sector partners, making sure that the company works with the highest compliance to standards and that the project respects market competition, quality and sustainability.
Working with HKP offers numerous advantages for private companies. On the one hand, HKP facilitates their entry into potential markets in Africa through the cooperation with the university hospitals, which in turn have links to key global health actors in Africa and Germany and links to local networks in the project countries, including access to government institutions such as health ministries.
Involving the private sector in the HKP partnerships is a win-win-win situation for the partnerships, GIZ and the companies: the partnerships benefit from the support of both a development agency and a company with high-level technical competence; GIZ leverages private funds (in the case of PPPs) through the public money from BMZ; and the enterprises extend their presence in the African healthcare market.
